Nanny's Traditional Beef Stew

We all have our own way of making a good pot of stew and this my Nanny way. It was another battle getting her method and quantities nailed down as the video shows, but it was worth it. I've fond memories of getting this as a young fella through the winter months. But honestly I could eat it year round. It's a proper filling and hearty dinner filled with beef and spuds, which seems to just warm the soul. My Granda was pleased as ever getting this but you’ll laugh, he never puts sauce on food. He says it spoils the flavour and insults the chef, then again this doesn't need it because it's bloody delicious!

Step 1

Get your large pot over a medium to high heat and melt down your lard or add oil. When its properly hot add your beef in stages, searing off to seal. If the pot isn't hot enough juices will run from your meat, which you want to avoid.
